3)  Which of the following is a landlocked West African nation that won independence from France in 1960 and was formerly called Upper Volta?
a)   Burkina Faso
b)   Cameroon
c)   Senegal
d)   Tunisia

Correct Answer:  Burkina Faso.

While this is a hard question, you can quickly eliminate the other three options because they are not land locked:
  • Tunisia is on the Mediterranean coast next to Libya
  • Cameroon is on the Gulf of Guinea next to Nigeria
  • Senegal is on the Western coast of Africa South

Burkina Faso is the only landlocked nation in this list.  The name upper Volta refers to the Volta river.  The country's name was changed to Burkina Faso in 1983.
